The University of Alberta’s Student’s Union and Board of Directors have recently approved the University of Alberta Field Lacrosse Club as a sanctioned club.  So what does this all mean.  Well it means that there is a lot of work ahead to establish a Field Lacrosse Club on the campus, but the green light is now on.  Obviously the long-term goal is to establish a field lacrosse league similar to the one that operates in Eastern Canada and the first step is getting students to step up and be part of this initiative.  The University of Saskatchewan and the University of Victoria already have club teams so there is the opportunity to set up a league.  The short-term goal is to get a team together and play at least one exhibition game this spring.  Where it goes from there will be dependent primarily on the students.  If there is strong support from the grassroots then this Club will take off.   It would be a great opportunity for a talented lacrosse players to participate in the sport as they complete their studies.
