Jimmy Quinlan always talks to the players at Vimy Lacrosse and the players that we coach that it is important to get into the shooting lanes.  I know he talks from experience as I have watched him take numerous shots to the legs, body and occasionally to the head.  You are hoping that getting into the shooting lane will prevent the offensive player from shooting because he sees you there.  Sometimes it does not work like that and the player blasts away.

In NCAA playoff action last weekend with seconds on the clock and Virginia up 6 – 5 over Princeton, Chris LaPierre made the ultimate shot block.  Forrest Sonnenfeldt, all 6’6″ and 250 lbs. of him, had one last desperation shot left for the Princeton Tigers.  He reached back and unleashed a bomb that Chris LaPierre threw himself at.  LaPierre ate the shot hard and the result was Virginia ball as the ball headed out of bounds and the Cavaliers backed up the ball.  LaPierre made a total team play and secured the win.  It is not the safest play to make and I would not recommend that play to children, but I respect the action and have to tip my hat to him.
