Vimy Lacrosse/Edmonton Rush Spring Break Camp 2013

Posted: March 28, 2013 by Paul Rai in General Lacrosse

It was a very busy two days, but well worth the time and effort as Vimy Lacrosse and the Edmonton Rush teamed up again to run their Fourth Spring Break Camp.  The camp was led by Captain Jimmy Quinlan who brought in Rush players Mark Matthews, Aaron Bold, Jarett Toll and local player Simon Giourmentakis.  Aaron Bold, the starting goalie for the Rush, provided the goaltender instruction for the two days working with all 20 goalies.  It was great to see all the goalies out at the camp because if there is one position in Alberta that we need to generate more players it is at the goalie position.  Mark Matthews brought to the camp his love for the game and his great offensive creativity. The kids flocked to him because you can tell he truly enjoys the game of lacrosse and wants everyone to have fun playing the sport.  He has unbelievable hands and just watching him play with the ball in his stick was mesmerizing.   Many people may not know, but Jarrett Toll played five years in the WHL proving that you can combine hockey with lacrosse and be successful at both.  Jarett was great working with the kids devising drills to challenge them and keep them moving.  Simon Giourmentakis played all his minor lacrosse in Edmonton and moved to play NCAA lacrosse at Canisius.  He is now back in Edmonton working his way into the Rush lineup.  Nice to see local boys making inroads into the NLL.  And Jimmy Quinlan.  Captain Rush who continually proves to be the team leader.  Jimmy works so well with the kids pushing them and bringing energy each and every day.  He was the Camp Director and brought the whole thing together.  Overall a great success due the Rush players and all the young kids who came and worked so hard at their game.  It was unbelievable to see so many kids playing The Creators game.  It was also great to see the pro players spending so much of their time working with the youngsters.

Please see below some of the videos of the Rush players during their shooting demonstrations.
