Titans Junior A vs Raiders Game 1

The first game for the Sherwood Park Titans Junior A team was a partial success.  The players competed hard, there was great community  fan support and the game was played at a good pace.  Unfortunately, the result was a 7-6 loss to the Okotoks Raiders.  We, the Titans, were up 5-1 in the first period to be basically shutout the rest of the game until late in the third period.  The adrenaline that was pushing us in that first period was gone in the second and our conditioning hurt us as the game progressed.  That was our fear as the coaching staff recognized it was our first game and the Raider’s sixth game of the season.  The Raiders kept coming at us and as much as our defense and goalie played extremely well, we could not mount enough push back to get the win.  The Raiders are a team with good depth in their offensive game and it showed as the game went into the later stages.

Overall Coach Quinlan and myself were happy with the effort and know that there is a long road to improvement.  We have in our dressing room a group that we believe are committed to the organization and will work hard for each other.  We need to get into game shape, we need to believe in the offense and we need to execute.  It was a good start, not a great one, but one that we can live with for now.  We need to quickly regroup as we take on the Calgary Mounties tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 PM.

It was great to see the young minor players in the stands.  If there was one thing that I would like to see come out of this are young players who will be inspired to play this great game and will grow up wanting the play for the Junior A Titans.  That in itself will lead to a great future for Junior A lacrosse in the province.
