Local product from Sherwood Park, Mitch McAvoy, finished his junior year at Mercyhurst in the NCAA Division II National Championship game.  McAvoy had already won a national championship with Mercyhurst in 2011.  This year ended in disappointment for McAvoy as his team lost 11 – 10 to LeMoyne.  McAvoy was the team’s primary faceoff man winning 58% of his draws during the season.  He ended up with 10 goals and 8 assists for the season including a goal and 9 groundballs in the championship game.  Even though his season ended up with a loss in the championship, McAvoy had an outstanding season as he was named to the All Conference team.  Mitch is another great product of Sherwood Park lacrosse and of the Russ Sheppard lacrosse factory, that churned out some outstanding lacrosse players and young men.  Below are highlights from the championship game that include McAvoy’s (#45 white) faceoff play and goal.
