Titans Junior A End of the Regular Season

I would have to say that the trade has kicked the crap out of the team.  We knew we were losing some big parts of our team, but we felt we had the necessary pieces to still compete after the trade.  The final three regular season games did not go anywhere close to where we expected them to go.  Three straight losses for the Titans.  Jimmy and I knew we were in tough, but mentally the team did not respond the way we anticipated.  There were segments of games where we were playing well and you could see the players doing what was asked of them.  Then there were long stretches where our compete level was below average, our focus on our defensive principles was absent and our offensive ball movement was slow.

It is so easy to get discouraged, but we need to stay the course on the ‘big picture”.  This is about developing our team into a contender in the next two to three years.  The kids that we have thrown into the fire over the past three games are going to have to be the leaders next year and beyond.  When the games are going poorly it is too easy to dissect each play, each miscue, each missed assignment.  It is more prudent for us to get this program into a top level Junior A franchise on and off the floor.

The regular season is over and the playoffs start on the weekend in Calgary.  The message is simple.  We need to represent ourselves properly, prepared to play and give the Raiders a battle.  This is about who we are, our character.  How will we respond when everything is going poorly?  Will be come together as a team or will we break apart at the seams?   I would hope that the players that we have worked with over the past few years understand what the proper response will be.  Our overall team attitude will speak volumes about who we are as people and as athletes.  I care more about our desire to step on the floor on Saturday ready to compete than the final score.  The results will be a by-product of our overall team execution.

The team plays on without me as I have to leave the country on another lacrosse expedition.  The Titans are in good hands with Jimmy in the lead.  It would be great to come back in 11 days with the knowledge that I get to be on the bench for the second round of the playoffs.  That is a very tough road ahead, but  I welcome that challenge.  Bring it on.  Tell me again what I can not do so I can prove you wrong.  The power of a team is definitely greater than the sum of its parts.  Good luck Titans.
