The New Year Brings Lacrosse Hope – Video

The New Year brings us the start of the NLL season and the first game takes place tonight between the Buffalo Bandits and the New England Black Wolves.  The beginning of the year always brings optimism for the lacrosse season.  Will the Rush make the breakthrough they have been poised to do for the last couple of years?  They definitely are due for the final push to a championship.  The NCAA Division I season starts on February 1st – let’s hope the winter on the East Coast of the US is not as harsh as it was last year.  College teams will be starting practice when the students return from the Christmas Break.  Will Duke again be the powerhouse that rises to the top?  The Junior A lacrosse season starts in the Spring and the preparations will start soon.  With lots of discussion of changes to the Junior A loop in Alberta, it seems status quo is again the path.  Will Alberta be better and follow up on the success of the Calgary Mounties last year?   Will it again be an Ontario/BC final matchup for the Junior A Championship?  Will Six Nations again take the Minto Cup?

Lacrosse in Canada has changed dramatically in the past 5 years as more and more young Canadian players are chasing a dream to play college lacrosse in the US.  Box lacrosse is no longer the ultimate destination as players are deciding to spend more time on the field game.  More needs to be done to establish field lacrosse as a viable sport in Canada for the youth, instead of a passing fad.  And with that what about the continued growth of women’s field lacrosse for the young girls wanting to play at the collegiate level?

So many questions to be answered as we move to 2015, but one thing is for sure there is hope and optimism as the 2015 lacrosse seasons are within sight.  It does not matter what league you may play in, NLL, College, Masters, Senior, Junior or Minor, It is going to be great as we get some answers to many of these questions.  Good luck to all the lacrosse players for the upcoming year.
